Indore is changing not just outward, but upward.
As the city expands, land values rise, infrastructure improves, and more people choose apartments and high-rise communities, the traditional idea of a home is evolving. The independent house with its open plot is increasingly sharing the urban landscape with towers, gated communities, and vertically planned residential developments.
But when a city grows vertically, shouldn’t the way we design homes change too?
From Open Plots to Vertical Living
For generations, the ideal Indore home meant space an open courtyard, terrace, garden, parking area and room to expand. Vertical development changes that equation. Apartments make better use of limited land while bringing hundreds of homes into a single development. This creates new priorities: efficient floor plans, natural light, ventilation, privacy, storage, parking, elevators, fire safety, and shared amenities.
The balcony, for example, is no longer just an extension of the living room. In a vertical home, it can become a small garden, workspace, reading corner, or connection to the outdoors.
When the plot becomes smaller, design has to become smarter.
Designing Homes That Don’t Feel Vertical
One of the biggest challenges of apartment living is creating a sense of openness within a limited footprint. Large windows, thoughtful orientation, open-plan living areas, flexible furniture, built-in storage, and balconies can make compact homes feel more spacious. Natural light and cross-ventilation become particularly important when residents don’t have the same freedom to orient their homes as they would in an independent house.
Community design matters too. Landscaped terraces, podium gardens, walking spaces, children’s areas, clubhouses, and shared green zones can compensate for some of the private outdoor space lost through vertical development.
The best vertical communities aren’t simply buildings stacked one above another they are designed as complete living environments.
The Future of Indore’s Vertical Home
As Indore grows, vertical living may become an increasingly important part of its residential landscape. But higher density doesn’t have to mean sacrificing comfort, greenery, privacy, or quality of life. The future apartment could combine the efficiency of vertical construction with the qualities people traditionally valued in an independent home light, air, greenery, privacy, flexibility and a sense of space.
For homebuyers, this means looking beyond the number of bedrooms or the height of the tower. The more important questions may be:
How much natural light does the home receive? How well does it ventilate? What is outside the window? How much usable open space does the community provide? And how well is the entire development designed for everyday life?
Because as Indore grows upward, good home design will determine whether vertical living simply saves land—or actually creates better ways to live.
